Energy-Efficient Three-Valued Logic Encoder and Decoder Circuits with GNRFETs

Three-valued logic offers potential advantages over binary logic, including faster computation, smaller chip size and reduced interconnects that leading to lower complexity, higher speed and improved energy efficiency in digital circuits. This work presents the designs of a 2:9 decoder and a 9:2 encoder circuits based using graphene nanoribbon field-effect transistors (GNRFETs) in three-valued logic. The encoder and decoder circuits are designed and simulated in HSPICE with 0.9 V as supply voltage for performance analysis. The simulated three-valued encoder exhibits a power-delay product (PDP) of 621.46fJ and the decoder exhibits 465.21fJ, respectively. Finally, comparisons of proposed work with the conventional CNTFET-based designs are carried out. The results demonstrated that the proposed GNRFET based circuits has superior speed and power efficiency compared to carbon nanotube field-effect transistors (CNTFET) circuits.
