Renewable energy development in the Arab countries in the context of energy transition

In the context of energy transition, Arab countries, as the regions rich in energy resources, are constantly exploring ways to adjust their energy structure and increase investment in clean energy. In particular, since the outbreak of the COVID-19, the international energy market has been more volatile, causing instability in the energy income of the oil-producing countries. Accordingly, the Arab countries have introduced and updated their energy development goals in an attempt to gradually reduce their dependence on traditional energy sources and strive to achieve economic diversification and sustainable development. Although some Arab countries have formulated their own shortterm, medium-term, and long-term development goals and plans for new energy, the current status of new energy development and utilization is still far from reaching the medium- and longterm development goals, and the development of new energy in some countries is relatively lagging behind. In the future, Arab countries should pay more attention to the socio-economic impact of energy transition, improve the institutional and market environment for renewable energy development, and promote the region to play a greater role in the global energy transition.
