Development of Smart Syringe Infusion Device for Healthcare

The precise and efficient administration of medication and fluids through syringe pumps is crucial in modern medical treatments and research applications. In many cases, microscopic and nanoscale motion control is essential to achieve accurate results. Conventional syringes fail to provide the high precision needed to control syringe pumps effectively. They are prone to dosing errors, require manual control, and lack automation, leading to inconsistencies in medical administration. In this paper, an IoT-based smart syringe infusion device is designed and tested, offering a cost-effective and user-friendly solution. It provides precise dosage control, enhances patient safety, and allows remote monitoring of healthcare, particularly in rural areas. The device features three modes of operation: 1) Manual control, 2) Virtual control, and 3) Refill mode. The manual mode allows users to deliver medication using the device’s user interface, which consists of an LCD and keypad. The virtual mode enables remote control through the Blynk mobile application. The third mode facilitates automatic refilling of the syringe by adjusting the motor displacement in reverse for accurate fluid refills. Additionally, the proposed device maintains the patient’s electronic health records (EHR) in both modes for improved healthcare. Test results show that the device can seamlessly switch between different modes. It has been observed that the device performs with high accuracy, particularly at low dosage rates.
