A gas-thermal inertia-based ramping auxiliary service strategy of the integrated energy system

The increasing penetration rate of renewable energy has brought about severe netload fluctuations, thus requiring extra ramping auxiliary service (RAS) resources to alleviate power imbalance problems. Quick power support can be provided by the multi-energy conversion of the electricity-gas-heat coupling integrated energy system (IES), especially the inertia resources brought by IES slow-dynamic characteristics without significant impact on the system normal operation. Therefore, this paper explores the power support potential of IES gas-thermal inertia (GTI), based on which establishes an IES operation model aiming at optimizing the economy of system operation and ensuring enough ramping capacity for power systems. Then, a corresponding power support strategy is designed to demonstrate the advantages of joint RAS provision by thermal inertia and multiple gas inertia devices. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed strategy is assessed via an actual scenario.
