Cybersecurity in Internet of Medical Things: Threats and Innovative AI-Driven Tools

The Internet of Things (IoT) has become integral to critical infrastructures such as healthcare, energy production, and transportation, significantly enhancing system efficiency and reliability. However, the proliferation of IoT devices introduces new vulnerabilities, particularly in the form of cyber-attacks that can compromise system functionality and security. This paper focuses on the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), a subset of IoT, which integrates smart technologies to improve medical care by connecting patients, healthcare providers, and systems for real-time data exchange. Despite its benefits, IoMT's interconnected nature poses significant cybersecurity risks, including denial-of-service attacks, data breaches, and remote manipulation. The DYNAMO project addresses these challenges by developing methods and tools that integrate cyber threat intelligence and business continuity management to enhance the resilience of critical sectors. This study explores the capabilities of DYNAMO's cybersecurity tools in mitigating risks associated with IoMT devices, providing practical insights into leveraging these tools to improve IoMT security while addressing their limitations. The research methodology combines a literature review, tool analysis, and vulnerability-to-tool mapping to evaluate the effectiveness of these tools in real-world scenarios. The findings underscore the critical role of advanced cybersecurity tools in safeguarding IoMT ecosystems. However, there are still gaps that need to be addressed. Future research should focus on enhancing the interoperability of these tools, improving real-time threat detection capabilities, and ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory frameworks. Continuous training and awareness programs are also essential to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills to counter cyber-attacks effectively.
