S-CO2 Power Cycle System Motor Design and Loss Characteristic Analysis

This paper presents the design of a high-speed permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) for a 200 kW S$\text{CO}_{2}$ Brayton cycle power generation system. The design process begins with the motor's structural layout, followed by determining the connection configuration of the system's generator unit. Using a 2D finite element simulation model, the electromagnetic performance of the motor under both no-load and load conditions is analyzed to validate the rationality of the electromagnetic parameters. Further, detailed calculations are performed for core losses, eddy current losses, and copper losses in the windings. The windage losses of the motor rotor are computed using both empirical formulas and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods. The results from both approaches are compared to evaluate the accuracy of each calculation method.
