An Optimal Site and Size of DG Units by Using an Advanced ABC Algorithm

The optimal insertion of distributed generation (DG) units is an effective approach to meet customer requirements with minimal power loss and voltage fluctuations, even during peak demand. This research examines the optimal placement of DG units within electricity distribution systems. It presents an enhanced concept aimed at reducing total active and reactive power loss, as well as overall voltage deviation. In this study, we propose employing an advanced Artificial Bee Colony algorithm to address this multi-objective problem. This refined technique utilizes the inverse of the initial solution, effectively doubling the population search space from the outset and enhancing the diversity of the results. We evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm in comparison to existing algorithms using the IEEE 33-bus distribution grid. To analyze load flows, we adopted the backwards-forward sweep (BFS) method. The results indicate that the proposed ABC algorithm outperforms other contemporary algorithms.
