Study on Corona Loss Characteristics of Cross-linked Polyethylene Coated Conductor

This paper systematically investigates the inhibitory characteristics of dielectric barrier effect on corona loss of conductors by adopting two types of coating methods for LGJ-720/50 conductors: single-layer film with cross-linked polyethylene/ double-layer co extruded film with cross-linked polyethylene and nylon wear-resistant protective material at BaZhou Test Base of China Electric Power Research Institute in Langfang City, Hebei Province. The corona loss, total ground electric field intensity and ion flow density data of conductors with different coating materials and different numbers of sub-conductors were obtained. Additionally, finite element simulation method was used to build a DC overhead transmission line model of conductor-to-ground structure, the calculated values were compared with experimental values to verify the accuracy of the calculation model. By adjusting the geometric configuration of the model, the variation law of corona loss of the conductor at different heights above ground was obtained, which provides data reference and support for the construction and development of HVDC transmission line.
