Advanced Isolated Partial Power Converter for Auxiliary Power Supply in 1.5kV Railways Applications

This paper presents an Advanced Isolated Partial Power Converter (AI-PPC) designed for 1.5kV railways applications. The proposed topology combines the Active Resonant Voltage Balancer (ARVB), the non-isolated DC-DC Buck converter and the isolated Single Active Bridge (SAB) converter in the Input-Parallel Output-Parallel (IPOP) configuration to meet increased power demands. A key feature of the AI-PPC is the ARVB, which operates in an open-loop configuration without additional sensors or control loops. To further explore the capabilities of the AI-PPC, the study focuses on the control structure, with particular emphasis on input and output balancing mechanisms and control architecture. The performance and robustness of the AI-PPC are validated through extensive Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulations.
