Quantitative Analysis of the Torque-Speed Curve for a Flat Wire Permanent Magnet Machine Drive System

To accurately predict the torque-speed curve of flat wire permanent magnet (PM) machines, the influence factors of the machine and its drive system are quantitatively analyzed. Apart from the magnetic saturation, the voltage spike introduced from machine drive system is characterized based on the magnetic field-circuit coupling model with spatial harmonic (SH) model. The overestimation of torque-speed curve predicted by traditional method neglecting voltage spike is quantified in this paper. The influence of dead-time compensation and overmodulation on torque capability enhancement in constant power region are further quantified utilizing the field-circuit coupling model.
