Design and Adaptability Analysis of the Homopolar Linear Synchronous Motor Applied to HTS Maglev

In this paper, a homopolar linear synchronous motor (H-LSM) for high temperature superconducting (HTS) pinning maglev is designed, simulated and analyzed. Since the secondary of the H-LSM is passive, the H-LSM with a short primary has a potential initial cost advantage over other LSM in high-speed rail transit. The primary of H-LSM was sized with reference to conventional rotating motor design methods, and the design of the on-board windings was further accomplished based on the loads and parameters of the HTS pinning maglev system. The performance parameters of the H-LSM were analyzed by the finite element method to verify the rationality of the design process. The effect of different structures (topology and pole arc coefficients) of H-LSM on its performance is investigated. Finally, the optimization scheme of H-LSM adapted to HTS pinning maglev is given based on the analysis results.
