Assessment of Miniature Rose Plants' Health Using Multispectral Imaging

Numerous species and varieties of roses (members of the genus Rosa) are among the most popular ornamental plants. Analysis of scientific publications shows interest in their remote detection, species identification, as well as assessment of health and stage of plant development. The paper describes methods and results of the study of the condition of a miniature rose bush using a portable multispectral camera developed by the authors. Images of the plant in spectral regions corresponding to characteristic features in vegetation reflectance spectra were obtained. The application of vegetation spectral indices made it possible to distinguish plant elements: flowers, young shoots, fully developed and dead leaves. The red-green vegetation index (GRVI) showed higher informativity in the detection of young shoots than the index based on brightness in the red and nearinfrared region (NDVI). At the same time, NDVI was more robust to the influence of non-uniform illumination of the plant.
