Controllers for Power Quality Improvement in Distributed Generation System with UPQC

This review paper provides a comprehensive analysis of control strategies for improving power quality in Distributed Generation (DG) systems, with a particular focus on the role of the Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC). As DG systems, especially those based on renewable energy sources, are increasingly integrated into power grids, maintaining high power quality has become a critical challenge. The paper examines a variety of control techniques used in UPQC, including traditional Proportional-Integral (PI) controllers, as well as more advanced methods such as Fuzzy Logic Controllers, Adaptive Controllers, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) Based Controllers, and Model Predictive Controllers (MPC). This research compares and reviews different control systems to show how well they handle typical power quality problems such reactive power compensation, voltage sags, and harmonics. The evaluation delves into the pros and cons of each strategy, offering valuable insights into how they might be used in various DG settings. The study finishes with suggestions on where the field should go from here, with an emphasis on how to improve UPQC control techniques for distributed generating systems‘ power quality management.
