Detection and Monitoring of Multi-Type Underground Power Cable Fault using IoT

Fault detection in underground power cables is important for maintaining the reliability and efficiency of modern power distribution networks. Underground power cable fault detection plays a major role in ensuring efficient and reliable power distribution. Traditional systems often have limited fault type coverage, manual fault simulation, low scalability, and unreliable communication methods like GSM, leading to inefficient monitoring and delayed fault rectification. To address these challenges, this paper introduces an IoT based underground cable fault detection system. The system identifies multiple fault types such as short circuit, open circuit, ground leakage and phase leakage, determines fault distances in kilometers through real-time analog voltage sensing. RemoteXY cloud integration allows real-time monitoring and control via a mobile interface, eliminating dependence on local displays and GSM networks. This solution is adaptable to modern power distribution networks, ensuring faster and more reliable fault detection.
