IoT & AI Based Safety Helmets and Gesture Controlled Gloves for Enhanced Protection of Miners

The coal mining industry is one of the most important and dangerous industries in the world. Unexpected encounters of uncertain emergency conditions can be prevented by the use of IOT and AI. This study proposes the enhancement of individual safety tools (helmets) that are already existing which can prevent the uncertain accidents by using IoT and AI. In an already existing PPE, by using several sensors that are integrated into the STM32 module, the device integrates the environmental data sensor using the I2C protocol in the STM module. Also Here, three different gestures have been defined to help the employees communicate with the nerve network to identify gestures and to help in communicating employees by Machine Learning algorithms by using a camera module. In addition, for improving the safety, a contact sensor is introduced in gloves that updates the control station using gestures based on contacts even when the image recognition fails. At the receiver side LED display is proposed to display the results of various sensors and camera module. During testing, the average accuracy for gesture recognition was recorded to be 93.3% and the average response time was less than 3 seconds.
