PID - Based Boiler Control System for Optimized Sterilization and Disinfection in Hospital Environments

Sterilization and disinfection are key processes in the hospital settings for the safety of patients and healthcare workers. Boilers are a major component of sterilizing medical equipment, surgical instruments, and surfaces by controlling accurate high-pressure and high-temperature conditions. Effective sterilization involves controlling crucial parameters like pressure, temperature, and sterilization time. In addition, the incorporation of chemical disinfectants such as hydrogen peroxide or glutaraldehyde adds to microbial destruction, providing physical as well as chemical sterilization. This work emphasizes the creation of a Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID)-based boiler control system for optimized sterilization and disinfection. Simulink-based model is designed to control temperature and pressure along with an chemical concentration monitoring system. The PID controller is tuned with the Simulink PID Tuner tool so that it will have a fast response, small overshoot, and zero steady-state error. Real-time feedback mechanisms are used to improve reliability to provide consistent sterilization outcomes. The system proposed here offers an efficient and reliable method for hospital sterilization techniques.
