Study on Energy Efficiency Metrics for Environmental Sustainable Computing

In order to address environmental issues in computing area, Sustainable Computing has been coined and become a host research and application area. A comprehensive measurement system of sustainability in computing is a foundational work. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive study of critical energy efficiency metrics in Sustainable Computing. The architecture of Sustainable Computing was introduced in this paper. Based on this, different levels of energy efficiency metrics were analyzed according to relevant international standards. Additionally, the new metrics were proposed to evaluate the whole system energy efficiency which includes the various application layer of Sustainable Computing. Finally, verification result on main metrics of Sustainable Computing was analyzed.
