Research and Application of High Speed Power Line Communication Architecture Through Electrical Penetration Assembly

Electrical penetration assembly is a kind of cylinder which contains several copper conductors and pre- pressurized with nitrogen gas to ensure the sealing performance of reactor building. As development of reactor control systems and demands of high-capacity communication, the traditional communication architecture through electrical penetration assembly cannot meet the current requirement. Optical penetration assembly has not been widely used even preliminary research result has been gained. A new kind of high speed and reliable communication architecture is quite necessary to get rid of the performance bottleneck. The research work depends on the nuclear fuel handling equipment which contains three separate devices that located at fuel building beside of reactor building. During fuel handling period, the three devices need interchange real-time interlock information to complete reactor reloading process efficiently with the premise of nuclear safety. Defer from the traditional coaxial communication case, we offer a new kind of power line communication architecture which has been proved with high speed and redundancy characteristics. The research production has been applied in Fang Chenggang Nuclear power station, Guangxi Province, PRC and achieved good results.
