The Design and Implementation of an FPGA-Based Cosmic Radiation Sensor PCB

This paper presents the design and implementation of a printed circuit board (PCB) for space applications that hosts a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) device. The FPGA device will implement a smart cosmic radiation sensor. The PCB uses commonly available electronic parts and commercial PCB manufacturing and assembly. We aim to achieve less than 1 W of power consumption while maximizing the effectiveness as a cosmic radiation sensor. The 6 -layer board has a robust power delivery system and a modular design, allowing easy integration into various space platforms (i.e. a 3U nanosatellite) and enhanced reliability in radiation-prone environments.
