Kleptographic Attacks on Post-Quantum Cryptography: A Case Study on CRYSTALS-Kyber in IoT Devices

Quantum computing poses a significant threat to the security of many cryptographic algorithms currently in use. In response, there has been a development in what is termed post-quantum cryptography. This field aims to provide security against quantum threats using existing classical computers, ensuring the protection of our information and privacy for the future quantum era. Recently, standardized PQC algorithms, such as CRYSTALS-Kyber for encryption, have emerged. This work explores a novel research direction by integrating CRYSTALS-Kyber and Classic McEliece with kleptographic techniques to configure backdoors in IoT devices, highlighting new security challenges in post-quantum cryptography.
