Low Power Hybrid Residual Amplifier and Comparator Design based on Complementary Parametric Amplifier

This paper demonstrates the Low Power Hybrid Residual Amplifier and Comparator Design based on Complementary Parametric Amplifier(CPA). By combining CPA with other residual amplifiers and using the CPA as a preamplifier, it not only reduces the design requirements for the subsequent amplifiers but also addresses the issue of the CPA’s inability to drive. We combine the CPA with continuous-time amplifiers such as gmR and dynamic amplifiers like Floating Inverter Amplifier(FIA). Compared to individual amplifiers, this combination achieves lower power consumption and reduced noise, while significantly improving the figure of merit (FOM). In addition, by leveraging the reversibility of the CPA amplification process, a hybrid comparator CPA-based Strong Arm latch is constructed, achieving decoupling of comparison speed and noise from two aspects. The simulation results achieved a FoM of 6nJ · (µV)², representing a tenfold improvement compared to a standard SA latch.
