Modeling Multi-Junction Tandem Solar Cell with High Bifacial Gain

Exploiting albedo light at the rear, bifacial solar cells provide a better energy yield than their mono-facial counterparts. This work exhibits a novel 4-T bifacial solar cell with soil as the reflecting surface. Two mechanically stacked 2-T tandem solar cells function as a novel 4-T bifacial tandem solar cell to maximize effective light absorption from both the front and rear surface of the photovoltaic device. An enhanced photon absorption in the rear surface of the bifacial solar cell demonstrates a bifacial gain of 22.25 % indicating a 22.75 percent increase in photo conversion efficiency compared to the corresponding mono-facial configuration.
