Online Parameter Estimation Under Variable Speed Control

Under variable speed control, different rotor speeds can be used to establish a full‐rank estimation scheme without introducing additional disturbance signals. Hence, this chapter introduces two evolutionary algorithm (EA)‐based estimation methods under variable speed control, which can identify the electrical parameters (stator resistance, dq‐axis inductances, and rotor permanent magnet [PM] flux linkage) and the maps of dq‐axis flux linkages, respectively. For estimating electrical parameters, the method described in Section considers the identifiability of all electrical parameters. It does not require nominal values of parameters, while the estimated rotor PM flux linkage and winding resistance can be used for thermal condition monitoring. For estimating dq‐axis flux linkages in Section , the estimation method can quickly determine the flux linkages in the complete current plane with good agreement with the FE prediction. As remarkable merits, the described method does not require accurate geometric and material information on permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs), while eliminating the uncertainties of voltage source inverter (VSI) non‐linearity and circuit resistance. Both methods are applied to an interior permanent magnet synchronous machine (IPMSM)‐based drive system and the experimental results are also presented for illustration.
