Multi-objective Planning of Hybrid Hydrogen-Battery Storage Systems based on Long-term Time-Series Production Simulation

The integration of battery energy storage systems (BESS) and hydrogen energy storage systems (HESS) offers a feasible solution for addressing both short-term and long-term energy imbalances. However, the high costs associated with their configuration remain a significant challenge. To address this issue, this paper proposes a multi-objective optimization model for planning hybrid battery energy storage systems (HBESS) based on a time-series simulation of 8760 hours. Additionally, to manage the uncertainties associated with renewable energy fluctuations and electricity price volatility, an energy management strategy based on a threshold-based rule control (TRCS) is developed. The proposed model is optimized using the multi-objective probabilistic group search optimizer (MPGSO) to achieve coordinated optimization of optimal capacity configuration and operational strategy. The optimization considers performance objectives such as life cycle annual equivalent costs (LCAEC), renewable energy curtailment (REC), and loss of power supply possibility (LPSP). The effectiveness of the proposed model and strategy is validated through simulation and comparison with conventional baseline strategies under two different meteorological scenarios.
