Real-Time Monitoring of Brackish Water Quality using an IoT System with LoRaWAN Technology

Brackish water ecosystems, characterized by dynamic fluctuations in water quality, pose significant monitoring challenges. Traditional methods fail to capture the rapid changes in these shallow, mixed-salinity environments, hindering effective management. This study introduces a novel Internet of Things (IoT) water quality surveillance system utilizing LoRaWAN technology to overcome these limitations. The system integrates low-power sensors to continuously measure key parameters (pH, turbidity, temperature, and salinity), transmitting data wirelessly over long distances. This real-time, remote monitoring capability enables comprehensive data acquisition, even under challenging conditions. A centralized platform processes the data, providing configurable alerts to stakeholders, supporting timely interventions. This low-cost, energy-efficient, and versatile system offers a significant advancement for brackish water management, with potential applications ranging from aquaculture to large-scale water resource monitoring.
