Robust Visible Light Communication via Perfect Vortex Beams

Our utilization of perfect vortex beams (PVB) enabled the design of coherent superposition of perfect vortex beams (CSPVB) featuring distinctive intensity structures, and designed an innovative perfect wireless optical communication system (PWOCS). Experimental results demonstrate that the PWOCS can facilitate information transmission utilizing up to 100 modes of Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM), and PWOCS successfully transmitted and accurately reproduced the emblems of Tongji University and Zhejiang University at the receiver. Furthermore, the performance of the PWOCS in oceanic turbulence conditions was further investigated. The disturbances of the oceanic turbulence created a certain degree of error in the high-order CSPVB by our OAM detection algorithm. The PWOCS remained capable of successful communication utilizing up to 80 modes of OAM despite the influence of oceanic turbulence. This outstanding result far surpasses the maximum number of OAM degrees of freedom attainable via wireless optical communication systems based on traditional vortex beams. The achievement is poised to engendering a new wave of advanced research and development in the field of wireless optical communications.
