Flexibility of Energy Supply Systems for Small and Medium-Sized Cities

Small and medium-sized cities in Russia are characterized by separate production of heat and electricity, worn-out condition of energy infrastructure facilities, and the use of outdated technologies in the production and transmission of energy, as well as in the management of the energy supply system. This leads to the lack of affordable energy supply and frequent interruptions in the supply of heat and electricity. The energy infrastructure is not able to adapt to changes. It can be argued that any change leads to the failure of energy facilities. The state of the energy infrastructure of the studied settlements does not allow for the creation of attractive conditions for the life of the population. In small and medium-sized cities, it is necessary to develop towards a simultaneous increase in the reliability and efficiency of the energy infrastructure, which requires the use of modern solutions in the production, transmission, and consumption of energy. Increased reliability combined with efficiency will allow us to talk about the creation of a flexible energy supply system. The study identifies technical devices that make it possible to maintain the reliability and efficiency of the energy supply process.
