Implementation of Topology Optimization of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor in Matlab

This paper presents a comprehensive approach to the topological optimization of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) using MATLAB. The study focuses on improving key motor performance metrics, including torque density, torque ripple reduction, and material efficiency, through advanced optimization techniques. The methodology integrates the Solid Isotropic Material with Penalization (SIMP) method with finite element analysis (FEA) to achieve optimal material distribution in both rotor and stator components. The implementation leverages MATLAB's computational tools for sensitivity analysis, iterative optimization, and post-processing, while addressing practical constraints such as manufacturability and electromagnetic performance. A comparative analysis of optimization algorithms, including gradient-based and evolutionary methods, is provided to evaluate their effectiveness in solving PMSM design challenges. The results demonstrate significant improvements in motor performance, validated through numerical simulations and benchmark studies. Key challenges, including computational efficiency and convergence stability, are analyzed, along with proposed solutions to enhance optimization robustness. The study concludes with practical recommendations for implementing topological optimization in real-world PMSM design processes, highlighting its potential to advance next-generation electric machine development.
