Towards a Circular Economy: A Study on the Lifecycle Redesign of Office Paper through Shredded Paper-based Pillow Inserts

Shredding of documents in offices is a common way to safeguard the privacy of company documents. However, the subsequent problems that arise from shredding documents also bring up sustainability and environmental issues to think about. In order to reduce paper waste and promote the secondary use of shredded paper, we designed a sustainable shredding program that redesigns the life cycle of paper in the office scenario. In this study, we integrated a shredder product and a shredding app to use discarded shredded paper as a continually replaceable pillow insert into pillowcases. We designed a wall-mounted shredder allowing for quick removal of the generated shredded paper. And we also conducted an app that can quickly recognize the amount of shredded paper generated and match the appropriate size pillowcase. It also contained office space fit recommendations, exchanging mall and Bluetooth connectivity to the shredder. This system provides more utilization possibilities for shredded paper, and on the basis of safeguarding the company's security, it also brings more comfortable experience to the users, and brings more help to the sustainable development of the society.
