Structural Integrity Evaluation Technique of Charge Based on Abaqus Secondary Development

To reduce the repetitive modeling, meshing, and other tedious work caused by frequent modifications of the propellant grain structure in solid rocket motor design, a secondary development of the Abaqus software was conducted using the Python language. A parametric modeling program for the propellant grain structure was developed to calculate the stress response under ignition and pressurization, along with a corresponding Graphic user interface (GUI) interface to enhance analysis efficiency, including automated pre- and post-processing. The feasibility of the software was verified through a case study, demonstrating that the program can effectively simplify the steps of simulation calculations, achieve efficient computation for updating the grain structure, and verifying the integrity of the propellant grain structure. By utilizing Traversal Search Algorithm, the mechanical responses of differently sized freely filled propellant grains within the feasible domain were computed, analyzing the stress and strain distribution patterns of the propellant grain structure to identify its weak points.
