Design and development of a portable UVC chamber for rapid disinfection of Medical Diagnostic tools.

The near-patient surfaces and equipment are frequently poorly decontaminated whereas these environments are highly contaminated with severe pathogens that causes pandemics like Covid-19 or epidemic like Monkeypox. The goal of this research is to create a low-cost and portable disinfection chamber that can rapidly disinfect personal clinical equipment while producing the necessary levels of ultraviolet-C radiation. Studies were carried out to evaluate its capacity to eliminate a variety of possible infections, such as the pox and severe acute respiratory syndrome associated corona viruses. Research conducted for classifying medical equipment that are at high risk of contamination due to direct contact with patients. Severely risky clinical equipment includes equipment used for noncommunicable or communicable disease diagnostic tools. Following the classification and selection of 10 medical items from common non-critical and groups to be decontaminated using a robust and sustainable designed disinfection chamber, a thorough investigation was carried out to examine the materials and construction of these items. Items that were challenging to clean with the designed chamber, such as blood pressure cuffs, were equally challenging to clean with conventional methods. The study’s findings imply that some patient-related equipment can be quickly and thoroughly disinfected using the designed chamber.
