The Importance of Adopting Competency-Based Learning in the Curricular Innovation Of Teacher Training Schools

This research highlights the importance of implementing Competency-Based Learning (CBL) in teacher training schools (Normal Schools). Based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, it underscores the need for quality education to better prepare teachers for their roles. CBL emphasizes demonstrating practical and applicable skills rather than focusing solely on theory. This approach enables an objective assessment of teachers, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary competencies to meet modern educational challenges. Through interviews with 20 basic education teachers, the results reveal teachers' perspectives on the shortcomings of current training, identifying areas for improvement such as practical pedagogy, teaching students with special needs, socio-emotional competencies, and technological proficiency. These findings underscore the urgency of reforming the curriculum of teacher training schools (Normal Schools) to integrate the necessary competencies for contemporary teaching. The adoption of CBL would significantly strengthen teacher training, ensuring that teachers are well-prepared to contribute effectively to the emotional and cognitive development of their students, thereby successfully addressing contemporary educational challenges.
