Air Handling Unit with Electrostatic Precipitator via Antimicrobial Aerosol Coating Method

In this research, we engineered an antimicrobial ESP system, incorporating antimicrobial surface treatment on the collection plates via the dry-aerosol coating method. We assessed the system's effectiveness in removing and neutralizing aerosolized bacteria (E.coli and S.aureus) and viruses, including representative surrogates (MS2 bacteriophage and H1N1), which mimic human and animal respiratory viruses like SARS-CoV-2. Additionally, we implemented the antimicrobial ESP system within the air handling unit of an office environment and examined its capacity to mitigate airborne transmission in indoor settings.
