Ground-Hook Approach for Sliding Mode Controller

In the present paper, we develop a sliding control technique for a semi-active vibration eliminator, focusing specifically on the synthesis of a sliding controller for a vehicle's suspension strut. Its goal is to mimic the ground-hook algorithm for one-fourth of the vehicle. In this setup, the controlled damper serves as the semi-active element. The authors analysed vibration transmission characteristics to evaluate the vibration isolation system’s effectiveness based on the selection of the sliding surface. Sliding control methods exhibit robustness, which minimises the influence of uncertainties in the suspension model parameters and the semi-active component on control performance. The authors regard road roughness and disturbance variations included in the model as uncertainties in the parameters. Ultimately, implementing a semi-active suspension system alongside a sliding mode controller can enhance ride comfort, handling, and stability in vehicles compared to traditional passive suspension systems.
