Smart Sorting System for Industrial Applications: Combining PLC and Microcontroller for Accurate Color, Length, and Weight Sorting

Intelligent sorting systems are essential for modern manufacturing environments, seeking to enhance both efficiency and output. This research project develops a highly accurate and effective sorting system that integrates Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) with microcontrollers to classify objects by color, weight, and length. The system incorporates multiple sensors to measure various factors, with the gathered data processed by the PLC to ascertain the suitable sorting trajectory. The microcontroller facilitates the management of sensor data and improves system responsiveness. DC gear motors are utilized to efficiently guide the sorted items to their designated bins, guaranteeing accurate and dependable sorting. This automated procedure reduces manual effort, markedly enhancing sorting velocity and precision. Experimental results indicate that the system operates with significant reliability, offering a cost-efficient solution suitable for diverse industrial applications. Moreover, the system's programmability offers modification to fulfill the distinct requirements of various manufacturing configurations. The integration of PLCs and microcontrollers enables the smart sorting system to attain enhanced sorting efficiency and overall productivity, rendering it an optimal choice for industrial applications. This research highlights the significance of integrated systems in promoting industrial automation and control, equipping producers with the means to optimize processes and improve output quality while minimizing manual involvement.
