Design of an Inverted L-C-shape Electromagnetic Band Gap Antenna using ENG Metamaterial for C-Band Application

An Inverted L-C-shape EBG antenna presented for C-band application in communication technology in this study. An Epsilon Negative (ENG) Material is used for an effective antenna design.FR-4 material is used as a substrate of 11×11 mm² dimensions in this design having a dielectric constant is 4.3 and a thickness is 1.6 mm in unit cell design. But the dimension of the antenna is double to unit cell dimensions such as 22×22 mm² where the main patch antenna, EBG structure, or unit cell design consists of copper metal with 0.035 mm thickness and 10×10 mm² dimension. At the resonant frequency of 8.01 GHz, the return loss magnitude is -42.29 dB for the proposed EBG antenna and covers the C-band quality to communicate. A 90.0 MHz bandwidth was obtained from the inverted L-C-shape EBG antenna. Instead, the patch antenna (without EBG) provides 60 MHz bandwidth at the resonant frequency of 7.11 GHz. Similarly, the required ENG material provides the only negative value of electric polarizability is -1.69 enclosing the C-Band at the resonant frequency of 7.11 GHz. The resulting performance with EBG technology provides better performance such as return loss, far-field directivity, and bandwidth than a basic microstrip patch antenna (without EBG). Specifically, the utilizing properties of electromagnetic waves of ENG materials provides strengthening gain and overall performance in EBG Antenna technology and that’s the goal of our study.
