Planned obsolescence refers to the intentional design of products with finite lifespans, aimed at encouraging the constant turnover of products. This practice implemented by companies violates the ethical practices engineers are required to adhere to in order to uphold the good of those whose lives they aim to better. This paper seeks to provide a solution for planned obsolescence through a careful exploration of its various forms throughout history, the ethical dimensions to it, the impact it has on our environment, and those involved parties.
