Weapons Detection using OpenCV and Django Framework

Recent public safety issues have given way to the demand for advanced real-time weapon detection systems in schools, public gatherings, and especially in the aviation sector. This project presents a method for developing an economical efficient weapon detector using OpenCV and the Django framework. OpenCV is an open-source computer vision library that allows real-time processing and object detection of images, which is quite beneficial in identifying weapons. The system is built on a robust Python-based web framework, Django, to develop a scalable and responsive web application. The core of this system is based on a deep learning model, likely YOLO (You Only Look Once) or SSD (Single Shot MultiBox Detector), which has been trained on large datasets of weapon images to ensure high accuracy. OpenCV analyzes and processes video frames in real time, classifying objects as weapons or non-weapons. Meanwhile, the Django manages the backend, taking care of user interactions, database storage, and notification systems. In case a weapon is detected, the system immediately triggers alerts to relevant authorities, enabling swift responses. Moreover, logging features store detection records for future analysis. This method provides a simple and feasible means of security upgrade without expensive hardware, hence deployable in different settings. Combining the real-time processing capabilities of OpenCV with Django's backend efficiency, this system provides an affordable, scalable, and effective means of weapon detection, which leads to better public safety
