IoT - Enabled Safety and Tracking Platform

The safety of children during school transportation is a growing concern, prompting the development of innovative solutions to ensure their well-being. This paper proposes an IoT -based Smart School Bus Monitoring System aimed at enhancing child safety, improving communication, and optimizing operational efficiency. The system integrates an on-board attendance mechanism using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to register students as they board and alight the bus. This data is transmitted via IoT to a centralized platform, where it is processed and monitored in real-time. Parents receive automated SMS notifications with real-time updates about their child's boarding and alighting, alongside the bus's GPS location, offering them peace of mind and constant monitoring of their child's journey. The system also features GPS tracking of the bus, which enables precise location sharing with both parents and school authorities. This ensures transparency and allows for continuous monitoring of the bus's route. The school's transportation team can track the bus's movements throughout its route, allowing for timely intervention in case of deviations or emergencies. Additionally, the system enhances communication by providing real-time data to both parents and school officials, ensuring that everyone involved in the transportation process is informed. This IoT-based solution not only improves child safety by providing accurate and timely information but also optimizes the transportation process, reduces delays, and ensures efficient coordination. The integration of RFID, GPS, and IoT technologies provides a comprehensive monitoring system that ensures the well-being of children during their commute to and from school, representing a significant advancement in school transportation systems.
