Bat-Shaped Antenna Array for Biomedical Microwave Imaging

This paper presents a new approach for cancer tumor detection utilizing a four-element antenna array composed of bat-shaped antennas. Designed for microwave imaging applications, the antennas are optimized to achieve high gain for emitting low-power radiation signals, along with appropriate characteristic impedance and bandwidth tailored to the system's requirements. Operating within a frequency band centered at 4.92 GHz, the batshaped design is modeled using the High-Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) and validated through crossverification with CST STUDIO SUITE. The compact antenna structure measures 41 × 41 × 1.6 mm and employs an FR4 substrate with a relative permittivity of 4.4 and a loss tangent of 0.02. Both simulated and experimental results demonstrate the antenna's robust performance, particularly in terms of return loss and radiation pattern fidelity. Additionally, the paper evaluates the integration of this antenna array into a full-scale microwave imaging system, highlighting its potential to enhance accuracy and efficiency in medical diagnostics, particularly for earlystage tumor detection.
