Guest Editorial: AI for Communications and Communications for AI: Part 1

The accelerated development of artificial intelligence (AI) has driven transformative advancements across industries, positioning ubiquitous intelligence as a core vision for the 6th generation mobile communication network (6G) towards 2030. Unlike the 5th generation mobile communication network (5G), which uses AI primarily as a supplementary tool to optimize conventional algorithms and operations, 6G aims to integrate AI as a native service fundamentally, providing on-demand intelligence capabilities for both the network infrastructure and external applications. To achieve this goal, the 6G network architecture should consider the deep integration of information, communication, and data technologies and build a full-lifecycle resource management framework for computing, data, AI models, and communication.
