Fiber Optic Transmission System Performance Testing

In this paper we discuss fiber optic transmission system performance testing for artificial Internet (AI) technologies, machine learning (ML), Internet of things (IoT) and big data. These require an increase in the rate and distance of data transmission, which leads to stricter requirements for the insertion loss in optical fiber. We systematize the parameters of fiber optic transmission system that affect the quality of signals transmitted over fiber optic links. We have summarized the methods for testing fiber optic cable and provided recommendations for their application. We pay particular attention to using test jumpers and setting the reference value before testing the fiber optic link.
