Engineering Leadership Excellence: an Innovative Dual Degree Undergraduate Program

The Engineering Leadership Excellence (ELX) program facilitates the completion of the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and the Bachelor of Business Administration in four and one-half years of coursework. Graduates of the dual degree program are better positioned to advance into management within the industrial engineering field. The ELX program represents a groundbreaking approach to meeting the changing needs of the Industrial Engineering field. It recognizes the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of the profession, where business intellect and leadership skills are integral to success. This program serves as a response to the growing demand for professionals who not only possess technical expertise in industrial engineering but also demonstrate a keen understanding of business strategies, management principles, and entrepreneurial thinking. This paper presents data regarding the ELX program, feedback from students enrolled in the program, and suggestions for other universities interested in developing dual degree programs between engineering and business.
