ISPS: RFID Powered IoT Based Smart Parking System

Ever-growing populations in cities result in fewer available parking spots, necessitating further investigation to develop smart parking space management solutions. The smart parking system features two layers: an RFID-based authentication system for authorized access, suitable for offices and apartments, and an IR-based slot occupancy detection system for tracking parking status in real-time. The RFID layer ensures restricted access, while the IR layer monitors slot occupancy and uploads data to the cloud, which is applicable for efficient parking management. The primary aim of this research is to construct and implement a smart parking system employing hardware components such as Arduino, IR sensors, servo motors, node MCUs, RFID tags, and readers. Then there are the Arduino IDE and Adafruit IO software components. Parking space optimization, traffic congestion reduction, and overall urban mobility enhancement are the major objectives of the proposed system. The Smart Parking System employs IR sensors to detect the presence of vehicles in parking spaces. An Arduino microcontroller strategically places IR sensors in each parking bay to process their data. The system utilizes a user-friendly interface, possibly a web application, to provide real-time information to drivers about the availability of parking spaces. The implementation of the Smart Parking System using Arduino offers a cost-effective and accessible solution for municipalities and businesses looking to enhance parking management. The integration of emerging technologies like Arduino and the Internet of Things not only addresses urban parking challenges but also contributes to the development of smarter and more sustainable cities. This research provides insights into the practical application of Arduino-based systems for real-world urban challenges and sets the stage for further advancements in smart city technologies.
