Single-Stage PV-Grid Integrated Multilevel Inverter Driven Induction Motor Drive for Water Pumping

This paper introduces a single-stage grid-integrated solar photovoltaic (PV) system for water-pumping applications utilizing an induction motor drive (IMD). The system features a seven-level diode-clamped multilevel inverter (MLI) that directly converts DC power from the PV array to AC power for the motor, eliminating the need for a DC-DC converter. Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is achieved through a perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm. On the other hand, direct torque control (DTC) with space vector modulation (SVM) ensures precise induction motor speed regulation. A key advantage is the bidirectional power flow capability between the PV array, motor load, and utility grid. This optimizes energy usage under varying solar irradiance and water demand conditions. Compared to conventional two-stage configurations, the proposed system demonstrates superior efficiency and power quality, presenting an effective solution for grid-connected solar water pumping applications.
