A Conceptual Study on Hydraulic-Based Power Generation from Speed Breakers

Electricity is essential for modern society, and energy losses from vehicles crossing speed breakers present an opportunity for energy harvesting. The research paper presents an innovative method to produce electrical energy by utilizing rubber and hydraulic speed breakers together. The system utilizes car speed and mass to convert potential energy into electrical power. The system combines a rubber speed breaker with hydraulic elements including multiple piston-cylinder units and a reservoir alongside a nozzle, turbine, generator, battery and one-way check valves. The pressure created when vehicles drive over the rubber speed breaker forces pistons to compress water in cylinders which then flows through a nozzle to strike turbine blades with high pressure. The turbine receives rotational force from its own spinning motion which then drives the generator through a shaft to produce electrical energy that gets stored in a battery. The rubber speed breaker exhibits both strength and flexibility while improving energy conversion by effectively absorbing vehicle impacts. Increasing the number of piston-cylinder units as per the speed breaker's length helps achieve higher power generation efficiency. Utilizing rubber in tandem with hydraulic technology represents a superior approach to producing sustainable and efficient energy from road structures.
