AI-Driven Smart Home Design Insights Impacts and Future Directions

This paper aims at analyzing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in smart home technologies, especially with regards to interior design. It offers an extensive review of theoretical and technological developments and actual implementation issues in the context of intelligent home environments. The paper also reviews existing literature to find out how AI can be used in designing and developing living spaces to suit individual needs, make them as functional as possible and with high energy efficiency. A survey for 300 users and interviews with design professionals was conducted to investigate user satisfaction, energy saved, and design efficiency using mixed methods. A cross-sectional study reveals that AI reduces the interaction between users and demand-side management equipment and reduces energy consumption by 22%. However, some issues of aesthetic rationality remained, and many users stated that AI proposed designs did not match their tastes. The paper also analyses these challenges and reveals that the usability of AI in the interior design process should be based on the methods focused on user needs. Last but not the least, the directions of future studies are presented in more detail with an introduction of the interdisciplinary cooperation of AI, interior design and human computer interaction for the enhancement of the creation of smart homes that are sustainable and friendly for users.
