Introduction to Programming with Micro:Bit by Solving Real-Life Problems: Evaluation of Learners' Self-Efficacy

The significance of learning computational thinking has been increasingly recognized, especially with the rapid developments in AI and IoT. Children, in particular, are entering a world where these technologies are widely used in daily life. This backdrop underscores the need for educational materials that allow children to easily learn programming using relatable themes so that they can make best use of these technologies. In this study, we developed educational materials using micro:bit and a temperature/humidity sensor to create a heat index measurement program for heatstroke prevention. This process allows learners to address a significant real-life issue in Japan-heatstroke. A preliminary evaluation was conducted with 57 participants. The results indicated that engaging with programming through the lens of real-life problems can enhance learners' self-efficacy.
