Protection of Three Phase Induction Motor under Single Phasing Conditions in Three Phase Systems

The three-phase induction motor is an essential part in many sectors due to its strength, efficiency, and simplicity in construction. However, induction motors suffer from multiple issues such as phase failure, over currents, over voltages, under voltage, overheating, and insulation breakdowns which can severely impact productivity and life expectancy. This paper focuses only on the single phasing faults and other auxiliary faults of a three-phase induction motor and the possible protection schemes that can be used to alleviate the problems. The objective is to use modern methods of fault detection and protection by using a Support Vector Machine algorithm to classify the fault and advanced protective control methods by SVM to isolate the motor from faulty area for the optimal running of the motor. The proposed system is used to improve the productivity and longevity and also to reduce the downtime of the three phase induction motor.
