Design of FPGA Timing Processing Module in Radar System

In view of the strict requirements of radar systems on timing control and processing accuracy during high-speed data processing, FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) as an efficient hardware platform has become one of the key technologies in the design of timing processing modules. In order to meet the real-time and high-precision requirements of the radar system, this study cites a timing processing module design based on FPGA. First, through an in-depth analysis of the radar signal processing process, the requirements and performance indicators of each timing control are clarified, and a module architecture suitable for FPGA is designed. Then, VHDL language is used to describe the hardware of the module, and the parallel processing characteristics of FPGA are used to realize real-time processing of high-speed timing data. Finally, to ensure timing accuracy, precise clock synchronization and signal delay compensation technology are used, and a custom timing control algorithm is used to optimize the data transmission and storage process. Experimental results show that the designed FPGA timing processing module performs excellently in timing accuracy, data throughput and multi-target signal detection capability. The timing error is controlled within ±0.8 nanoseconds, the processing speed reaches 50,000 to 66,667 pulses per second, and the maximum throughput is $0.1 \mathrm{~GB} / \mathrm{s}$. At the same time, the module can still stably detect target signals in complex noise environments and high load conditions, fully meeting the radar system’s requirements for high precision, high efficiency and high stability.
